Deputy Mayor Cllr. Jacqueline Richmond joined Mr. Pickerings Class from Maes Owen School on a litter pick on Friday 21st March on the Chester Avenue, Woodland site park area.

As you can see from the pictures the children did an excellent job.

The Kinmel Bay Dunes and beach were also litter picked by children from other Maes Owen Classes, who also worked extremely hard.

Thank you to all those involved including Gwyl from Keep Wales Tidy, who provided litter pickers, bags and two volunteers.

Tir Prince New Play Area

Towyn & Kinmel Bay Town Council wishes to announce the installation of New Play Facilities at Tir Prince Park, Towyn funded by Wren.   Wren is a not for profit business that awards grants to community projects from funds donated by FCC Environment to the Landfill Communities Fund.

We are very pleased to have been awarded this funding for our Local Community which will enable our Children of all ages to be encouraged “to get out and play” this summer.

The Grant Awarded of £72,640 will be used to build a new infant play area and to buy new play equipment for the old play area which has become run down.  There will also be an Outdoor Gym installed for all ages to enjoy.

Mike Snell, General Manager External Affairs, for FCC Environment said.  “The funding for the

Tir Prince Play Area which has been awarded by WREN, will create a real hub for the local community to come together.  FCC Environment is all about helping people to improve their communities in a sustainable way and this facility is a great example.  We hope many people in Towyn & Kinmel Bay enjoy it for years to come.”

Peter Cox, Managing Director of WREN said. “Wren is committed to funding projects that make a real difference to local communities, children and families.  The Tir Prince Play Area will provide a fantastic space for local people to get outdoors and have some fun.  We’re delighted to support

Towyn & Kinmel Bay Town Council to make this happen and look forward to the completion of the project”.

The Town Council would like to thank WREN & FCC Environment for all their support in helping us achieve this project for our community.

We look forward to seeing the new play area take shape over the coming months, with the work scheduled to commence in April 2014.

Community groups wishing to apply for funding to WREN should contact WREN on 01953 714112 or visit the website www.wren.org.uk

Environmental Art Week

7th-10th May, 2013

Children from our Local Schools participated in Environmental Art Activities recently. The children from Ysgol Y Foryd and Ysgol Maes Owen took part, both at their schools and Community House, Kinmel Bay.

Local Artists came in to help with different activities which related to woodland art, these included:-

Willow weaving, leaf printing, painting, drawing, textured paper art and much more!

The various works were put on display at the Schools and Mayor Ken Stone was invited to judge a winner from each School, both for their amazing art work and for the naming of the Woodlands. The winner for the naming of the woodlands was Callum Gurbutt. The name chosen for the woodlands is ‘Coedwig Helygen’ when translated means ‘Willow Woodland.’

Here are some of the pictures created by the children for you to enjoy!
